Ultrafast Lasers

This short blog post tries to explain how giant-chirp, mode-locked, ring laser oscillators work and what are their advantages towards affordable / low-cost ultrashort pulse lasers for material processing. Femtosecond and picosecond lasers are often used for machining and micromachining materials (any material) but they are much more expensive compared to their Q-switched and MOPA relatives. Giant chirp oscillators provide a great opportunity to reduce complexity and price of these amazing photonics devices. 

Ultrashort pulse lasers are the next generation of pulsed laser material processing tools. What are the advantages and the new applications enabled by this technology? Why are these lasers so expensive? We are trying to answer these questions in this short blogpost.
